StoneLion Puppet Theatre is a professional company dedicated to challenging the thought patterns of the young and young at heart through the art of puppetry. StoneLion has accomplished this through their full season of theater productions since 1993, their nationally touring company, and their artist-in residence and intern programs at levels from preschool-college. StoneLion uses multiple styles of puppetry including marionettes, masks, shadow, mouth and rod puppets to bring the magic of theater to life.
Highlights of their work include the acclaimed animal conservation series, The Continuing Adventures of Felicia Flash, who along with her side-kick Karma the elephant, globe-trotted to such areas as a yearlong residency in the famed Zoo Atlanta's Coca-Cola Discovery Theater and four years of summer productions totaling more than 400 performances at The Kansas City Zoo. Collaborations with authors and composers have led to the world premieres of such titles as DinoBones, the Musical, an original adult version of The Jungle Book with composer John Franceschina from Penn State University and New York based children's book author, Rhett Ransom Pennell's Excuse Me Are You a Dragon?
Heather Nisbett-Loewenstien, Artistic Director, started StoneLion years ago when she discovered puppetry melded performance and design into one big lump of fun that could communicate complex ideas and messages in a way that traditional theater could not. She has directed, designed and performed in over seventy different productions for the company. Heather holds degrees in theater from Boise State University and the University of Dublin, Trinity College.
